ALI is a Funk act. Their sound grew out of Fatima, Murphy Lee and The Five Stairsteps. Those roots explain a lot about how ALI arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Eve, HOME MADE 家族, 2 Mello, bbno$ and Skee-Lo, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into AKLO, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 20 connections around ALI, reaching back through Fatima and forward to AKLO. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
