Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect your personal information when you use Starverb (the "Service") at starverb.com and its apps. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and — where they apply to you — the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and United States state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).

By using Starverb you agree to this Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

§1Who we are

Starverb is operated as an individual/sole trader (the "data controller" and, under the APPs, the entity responsible for your information).

Privacy contact: hello@starverb.com

For any question, request or complaint about your data, email hello@starverb.com.

§2Who this applies to

Starverb is intended only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us their information, contact hello@starverb.com and we will delete it.

§3The information we collect

Information you give us

  • Email address — to create your account and sign you in with a one-time code.
  • First name / display name — what we call you in the app.
  • Age confirmation — that you are 18 or over (we store an "adult" flag and may store your year of birth).
  • Country — for regional relevance and to meet legal obligations.
  • Consent records — that you accepted these Terms and this Policy, and when.
  • Your taste and activity — the genres, artists and bands you pick and save; the "Moods" (collections) you create, including any notes; features you vote for; and any artists or genres you submit for us to add.
  • Social sign-in details — if you choose to sign in with Apple, Google or Spotify, we receive basic profile information (such as your email and name) from that provider.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage and interaction events — for example when you start a session, complete onboarding, travel between artists/genres, save a Mood, save a Setlist, share a page, or hit an error. These are recorded to run and improve the Service.
  • Device and technical data — browser type, device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and performance metrics.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — see Section 5.

Anonymous use. You can explore Starverb before signing up. We create an anonymous profile on your first visit and, if you later create an account, link your earlier activity to it.

We do not collect payment card details (the Service is free), and we do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health, race, religion or sexual orientation). Your music taste is not treated by us as sensitive information, but we handle it carefully all the same.

§4How we use your information, and our legal bases

We use your information to:

  • Provide the Service — sign you in, save your picks, Moods and maps, and show your star charts. (GDPR basis: performance of a contract.)
  • Improve and develop Starverb — understand what works, fix problems, and build new features. (GDPR basis: legitimate interests, or consent for non-essential analytics where required.)
  • Keep the Service secure — detect, prevent and investigate abuse, fraud and technical faults. (GDPR basis: legitimate interests / legal obligation.)
  • Communicate with you — send sign-in codes and essential service messages. (GDPR basis: performance of a contract.)
  • Meet legal obligations — including responding to lawful requests and enforcing our Terms. (GDPR basis: legal obligation / legitimate interests.)

§5Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and local-storage items to:

  • keep you signed in (essential),
  • remember your consent choice and preferences (essential),
  • measure usage through analytics (non-essential — used with your consent where the law requires it).

Where consent is required (for example in the EU/UK), non-essential analytics are only enabled after you agree, and you can change your choice at any time. You can also block cookies in your browser, though the Service may not work fully without the essential ones.

§6Analytics and error monitoring

  • Analytics — PostHog (hosted in the EU). We use PostHog to understand how the Service is used (page views, feature usage, funnels). On sign-in, your user ID and email may be associated with your analytics profile.
  • Error monitoring — Sentry (used only if enabled). If turned on, Sentry records technical error and diagnostic data to help us fix faults.

§7Who we share your information with

We share information only with service providers ("sub-processors") who help us run Starverb, and only as needed:

ProviderPurpose
Supabase (via Lovable Cloud)Database, authentication and hosting
LovableApplication hosting and sending your sign-in / service emails
PostHog (EU)Product analytics
SentryError monitoring (only if enabled)
Apple / Google / SpotifyOnly if you use them to sign in
SpotifyThe embedded player and streaming links (Spotify sets its own cookies and applies its own privacy policy)
Wikimedia / WikipediaArtist images are displayed from their servers, so your browser requests them directly

We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a sale or restructure of the business (with continued protection of your data).

§8International data transfers

Starverb operates globally, and our providers may store or process data in Australia, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and elsewhere. Where we transfer personal information overseas:

  • under the APPs, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with Australian law;
  • under the GDPR, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.

§9How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must keep certain records to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes. Aggregated or de-identified data that can no longer identify you may be kept.

§10Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including access controls, row-level database security, and encryption in transit. No online service is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

§11Your rights and choices

You can request to, update or delete your account information if required. To exercise any right, email: hello@starverb.com.

If you are in Australia, under the APPs you can request access to, and correction of, your personal information, and complain about how we handle it (see Section 14).

If you are in the EU or UK, under the GDPR you have the right to: access; rectification; erasure ("right to be forgotten"); restriction of processing; data portability; objection to processing based on legitimate interests; and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO).

If you are in the United States (e.g. California), you have the right to know what we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — and you will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

We will verify your identity before acting on a request and respond within the timeframes required by the applicable law.

§12Children

Starverb is for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.

§13Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll take reasonable steps to notify you (for example, in the app or by email). The "Last updated" date at the top shows the current version.

§14Contact and complaints

Questions or requests: hello@starverb.com.

If you are in Australia and are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au. If you are in the EU/UK, you may complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk).

Manage your analytics choice

You can turn Starverb's product analytics on or off at any time. This is stored in your browser.
