◇ image via WikipediaAltan
Altan is a World music act. Their sound grew out of Alison Krauss and Afro Celt Sound System. Those roots explain a lot about how Altan arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Dervish, Clannad, Luke Kelly, The Irish Rovers and Christy Moore, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Cécile Corbel, Dolly Parton, Enya, The Chieftains and Bonnie Raitt, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 15 connections around Altan, reaching back through Alison Krauss and forward to Cécile Corbel.
