Cyril Davies is a Blues act. Their sound grew out of Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee and Memphis Slim. Those roots explain a lot about how Cyril Davies arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Cecil Gant, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Jimmy Page, The Yardbirds, Nicky Hopkins, Alexis Korner and Long John Baldry, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 17 connections around Cyril Davies, reaching back through Muddy Waters and forward to Jimmy Page.
