Country

Gary Stewart is a Country act. Their sound grew out of The Jordanaires, Charlie Rich, Mel Tillis, Bob Dylan and Gregg Allman. Those roots explain a lot about how Gary Stewart arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Johnny Paycheck, Johnny Lee, Keith Whitley, John Anderson and Jerry Jeff Walker, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into George Strait, Nicolette Larson, Midland, Robert Earl Keen and Stonewall Jackson, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 35 connections around Gary Stewart, reaching back through The Jordanaires and forward to George Strait. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
