Grandpa Elliott is a Blues act. Their sound grew out of Fred Astaire, Curtis Mayfield, Smokey Robinson and Keb' Mo'. Those roots explain a lot about how Grandpa Elliott arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Watermelon Slim and Jerry McCain, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Temptations and The Dixie Cups, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 8 connections around Grandpa Elliott, reaching back through Fred Astaire and forward to The Temptations.
