Heilung is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Wardruna. Those roots explain a lot about how Heilung arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Nytt Land, Faun, Einar Selvik, Omnia and Otyken, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Lunatic Soul, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 7 connections around Heilung, reaching back through Wardruna and forward to Lunatic Soul. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Heilung is a European experimental folk music band. Formed in 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the group is made up of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany. Their music is based on texts and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of the Iron Age and Viking Age. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe". Their music is usually about Germanic deities, the Jǫtnar, and valkyries. "Heilung" is a German noun meaning "healing".
