Hillsong United is a Alternative rock act. Their sound grew out of Hillsong Young & Free and Lauren Daigle. Those roots explain a lot about how Hillsong United arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Hillsong Young & Free, All Sons & Daughters, Michael W. Smith, Newsboys and Lauren Daigle, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Bad Omens, Hillsong Young & Free and New Empire, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation.
