Huun-Huur-Tu is a Folk act. Their sound grew out of Kaigal-ool Khovalyg, Frank Zappa, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, The Chieftains and Sainkho Namtchylak. Those roots explain a lot about how Huun-Huur-Tu arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Otyken, Goran Bregović and Lhasa de Sela, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Yakuza, Sainkho Namtchylak and Yat-Kha, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 12 connections around Huun-Huur-Tu, reaching back through Kaigal-ool Khovalyg and forward to Yakuza.
