K-pop

Michael Hedges is a K-pop act. Their sound grew out of Igor Stravinsky, Edgard Varèse, Anton Webern, Will Ackerman and Bobby McFerrin. Those roots explain a lot about how Michael Hedges arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Leo Kottke, Andy McKee, Tommy Emmanuel, Ottmar Liebert and Jeff Beck, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Erik Mongrain, Antoine Dufour, Kaki King and Andy McKee, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 16 connections around Michael Hedges, reaching back through Igor Stravinsky and forward to Erik Mongrain. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
