Rick Davies is a Progressive rock and Rock act. Their sound grew out of Gene Krupa and Gilbert O'Sullivan. Those roots explain a lot about how Rick Davies arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Bernie Taupin, John Helliwell, Jimmy Bosch and Johnny Colon, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Gilbert O'Sullivan, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 7 connections around Rick Davies, reaching back through Gene Krupa and forward to Gilbert O'Sullivan.
