The album is the first appearance of former Turtles members Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan - nicknamed Flo & Eddie - on a Zappa record. The album was recorded between July 5, 1969 and August 29, 1970 at various studios in the US and London, UK. It is Zappa's third solo album, and eleventh album including those credited to The Mothers of Invention.
