Boubacar Traoré is a Blues act. Their sound grew out of Chuck Berry. Those roots explain a lot about how Boubacar Traoré arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Toumani Diabaté, Cheikh Lô, Amadou & Mariam, Vieux Farka Touré and Baaba Maal, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Dover, Rokia Traoré and Bill Frisell, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 18 connections around Boubacar Traoré, reaching back through Chuck Berry and forward to Dover.
