Buddy DeFranco is a Jazz act. Their sound grew out of Benny Goodman, Nelson Riddle and Artie Shaw. Those roots explain a lot about how Buddy DeFranco arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Lee Konitz, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Bill Evans, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Art Blakey and Howard Roberts, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 17 connections around Buddy DeFranco, reaching back through Benny Goodman and forward to Art Blakey.
