Carter Family is a Country act. Their sound grew out of Vernon Dalhart and Jimmie Rodgers. Those roots explain a lot about how Carter Family arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Jimmie Rodgers, Ola Belle Reed, John Anderson, The Dillards and Roger Miller, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Dolly Parton, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, June Carter Cash and Carlene Carter, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 25 connections around Carter Family, reaching back through Vernon Dalhart and forward to Dolly Parton.
