Kitty Wells is a Country and Folk act. Their sound grew out of Dolly Parton, Hank Thompson, Carter Family, Mel Tillis and Donna Fargo. Those roots explain a lot about how Kitty Wells arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Hank Thompson, Tammy Wynette, Bobby Bare, Bill Anderson and Conway Twitty, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Dolly Parton, k.d. lang, Reba McEntire, Loretta Lynn and Brenda Lee, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 34 connections around Kitty Wells, reaching back through Dolly Parton and forward to Dolly Parton.
