Cornell Campbell is a Reggae act. Their sound grew out of Barry Brown, Al Campbell, Basic Channel, The Gaylads and Purpleman. Those roots explain a lot about how Cornell Campbell arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Dennis Brown, Lone Ranger, Freddie McKay, Leroy Smart and The Heptones, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into King Tubby, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 31 connections around Cornell Campbell, reaching back through Barry Brown and forward to King Tubby. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
