Eric Carmen is a Alternative rock act. Their sound grew out of Arista Records, Jimmy Durante, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Those roots explain a lot about how Eric Carmen arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Patrick Swayze, Richard Marx, Starship, Air Supply and Kenny Loggins, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Olivia Newton-John, Ann Wilson, Dana Rosemary Scallon, Stiv Bators and Samantha Sang, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around Eric Carmen, reaching back through Arista Records and forward to Olivia Newton-John.
