Grant Green is a Jazz act. Their sound grew out of Charlie Parker, Don Covay, Charlie Christian, Lester Young and Joe Henderson. Those roots explain a lot about how Grant Green arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Wes Montgomery, Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard, Horace Silver and Wayne Shorter, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Big Boss Man, Karriem Riggins, Gene Dunlap, George Benson and Ronnie Foster, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 25 connections around Grant Green, reaching back through Charlie Parker and forward to Big Boss Man.
