George Benson is a Funk and Jazz act. Their catalogue also touches Pop and Rhythm and blues. Their sound grew out of Womack & Womack, Sam Dees, Jack McDuff, Phil Perry and Kashif. Those roots explain a lot about how George Benson arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Lee Ritenour, The Crusaders, Patti Austin, Wes Montgomery and Dave Grusin, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into O'Donel Levy, Idris Muhammad, Common Kings, Ronnie Foster and Michał Urbaniak, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 80 connections around George Benson, reaching back through Womack & Womack and forward to O'Donel Levy.
