Jon Cleary

Jon Cleary is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Cas Haley and Professor Longhair. Those roots explain a lot about how Jon Cleary arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Trombone Shorty, Southern Avenue, Lucky Peterson and Soulive, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, John Scofield, Izo FitzRoy and George Winston, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 22 connections around Jon Cleary, reaching back through Cas Haley and forward to Taj Mahal.
