BluesHouseRhythm and blues

Koko Taylor is a Blues and House act. Their catalogue also touches Rhythm and blues. Their sound grew out of Shemekia Copeland, Alligator Records, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter. Those roots explain a lot about how Koko Taylor arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Elmore James, Michael Burks, Albert King, John Lee Hooker and Magic Sam, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Denise LaSalle, Ronnie Earl, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Erja Lyytinen and Bonnie Raitt, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 32 connections around Koko Taylor, reaching back through Shemekia Copeland and forward to Denise LaSalle. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
