Melt-Banana is a Hardcore punk act. Their sound grew out of COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS, Aphex Twin, Lydia Lunch, Mr. Bungle and The Beach Boys. Those roots explain a lot about how Melt-Banana arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as OOIOO, Otoboke Beaver, Daughters, Pissed Jeans and Polvo, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Big D And The Kids Table, School Food Punishment and Crystal Castles, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 17 connections around Melt-Banana, reaching back through COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS and forward to Big D And The Kids Table.
