◇ image via WikipediaThe Damned
The Damned is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of The Beatles, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols and Syd Barrett. Those roots explain a lot about how The Damned arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Buzzcocks, The Adverts, Stiff Little Fingers, Dead Boys and Adam and the Ants, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Motörhead, The Offspring, Dave Clarke, Aiden and The Adverts, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 99 connections around The Damned, reaching back through The Beatles and forward to Motörhead. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
