Norma Jean is a Folk act. Their sound grew out of Demon Hunter, Between the Buried and Me, Silverstein, Jeannie Seely and Liz Anderson. Those roots explain a lot about how Norma Jean arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Darkest Hour, Blindside and Eighteen Visions, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Bring Me the Horizon, Abandon All Ships, Alexisonfire and Julien Baker, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 22 connections around Norma Jean, reaching back through Demon Hunter and forward to Bring Me the Horizon.
