Olavi Virta is a Tango act. Their sound grew out of Hernando's Hideaway, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. Those roots explain a lot about how Olavi Virta arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Irwin Goodman, Hector, Pate Mustajärvi, Pave Maijanen and Ultra Bra, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Jaakko Gauriloff and Vesa-Matti Loiri, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 21 connections around Olavi Virta, reaching back through Hernando's Hideaway and forward to Jaakko Gauriloff.
