They run in the same orbit as Me and Bobby McGee, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Big Brother and the Holding Company, Janis Joplin, Dusty Springfield, Faith Hill and Melissa Etheridge, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 16 connections around Piece of My Heart, reaching back through Bert Berns and forward to Big Brother and the Holding Company.
