PUFFY is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Unicorn, Jellyfish, Sean Combs, Cyndi Lauper and The Roches. Those roots explain a lot about how PUFFY arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Yuki, My Little Lover, Perfume, Mr.Children and aiko, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Tally Hall, Ra and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 18 connections around PUFFY, reaching back through Unicorn and forward to Tally Hall. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Puffy AmiYumi, or PUFFY, are a Japanese pop rock duo formed in Tokyo in 1995, consisting of singers Ami Ōnuki and Yumi Yoshimura. In the United States, they adopted the name Puffy AmiYumi to avoid legal naming conflicts with Sean Combs, who also performed under the name Puffy.
