The Roches

The Roches is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Paul Simon, Philip Glass, Laura Nyro, Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan. Those roots explain a lot about how The Roches arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Judee Sill, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Karen Dalton and Tia Blake, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Linda Ronstadt, Amos Lee, Indigo Girls, Rufus Wainwright and Yeasayer, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around The Roches, reaching back through Paul Simon and forward to Linda Ronstadt. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background
