◇ image via WikipediaQuantic
Quantic is a Funk and Trip hop act. Their sound grew out of Mulatu Astatke, The New Mastersounds, Mr. Scruff, Spanky Wilson and The Latin Brothers. Those roots explain a lot about how Quantic arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Quantic Soul Orchestra, Guts, Mr. Scruff and Tosca, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Mr. Scruff, NoMBe, Lanu, Alice Russell and Ana Tijoux, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 16 connections around Quantic, reaching back through Mulatu Astatke and forward to Mr. Scruff.
