Spanky Wilson

Spanky Wilson is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Letta Mbulu, Stanley Turrentine, Jimmy McGriff, Lou Rawls and Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro. Those roots explain a lot about how Spanky Wilson arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro, The Diplomats of Solid Sound, The Sweet Vandals, The Soul Snatchers and Baby Charles, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Quantic and The Quantic Soul Orchestra, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 21 connections around Spanky Wilson, reaching back through Letta Mbulu and forward to Quantic. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
