Roc Marciano

Roc Marciano is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Large Professor, Pete Rock, Mach-Hommy, Rakim and Kool Keith. Those roots explain a lot about how Roc Marciano arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mach-Hommy, Conway the Machine, Westside Gunn, Rome Streetz and Tha God Fahim, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Sonnyjim, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 41 connections around Roc Marciano, reaching back through Large Professor and forward to Sonnyjim. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Rahkeim Calief Meyer, better known by his stage name Roc Marciano, is an American rapper and record producer. He is known for his intricate internal rhymes and wordplay detailing mafioso and pimp themes over sample based production. He has been called the "Godfather of the Underground" for pioneering the resurgence of gritty, lyrical rap and use of drumless sample loops in the early 2010s with his highly influential debut album Marcberg (2010).
