Swalla is a Dancehall act. Their sound grew out of Ol' Dirty Bastard. Those roots explain a lot about how Swalla arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Taki Taki, 7 Rings, Shape of You and Mi Gente, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Blackpink and Lisa, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 7 connections around Swalla, reaching back through Ol' Dirty Bastard and forward to Blackpink. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
