The Floaters is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Gene McDaniels, Eugene McDaniels and Detroit Emeralds. Those roots explain a lot about how The Floaters arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Manhattans, The Dells, The Dramatics, The Chi-Lites and L.T.D., sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Full Force, Stetsasonic, B.o.B, Luis and Dream Warriors, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 38 connections around The Floaters, reaching back through Gene McDaniels and forward to Full Force.
