The Ramsey Lewis Trio

The Ramsey Lewis Trio is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Chris Kenner, Wynton Kelly, Hang On Sloopy and Chess Records. Those roots explain a lot about how The Ramsey Lewis Trio arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Oscar Peterson, Vince Guaraldi Trio, Hank Jones, Charlie Byrd and Bobby Timmons, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Earth Wind and Fire and Young-Holt Unlimited, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 19 connections around The Ramsey Lewis Trio, reaching back through Chris Kenner and forward to Earth Wind and Fire. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
