King Curtis is a House and Rhythm and blues act. Their sound grew out of Delaney & Bonnie, Lester Young and Louis Jordan. Those roots explain a lot about how King Curtis arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The J.B.'s, Clarence Carter, Baby Huey, Donny Hathaway and Lou Rawls, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Stevie Wonder, The Allman Brothers Band, The Rimshots, Lou Reed and Clarence Clemons, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 36 connections around King Curtis, reaching back through Delaney & Bonnie and forward to Stevie Wonder.
