The Tragically Hip

Psychedelic rock
Psychedelic rock

The Tragically Hip is a Psychedelic rock act. Their sound grew out of Julie Doiron, Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker, Joel Plaskett Emergency, Hugh Padgham and Kevin Drew. Those roots explain a lot about how The Tragically Hip arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Trews, 54-40, Matthew Good, Our Lady Peace and Big Wreck, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Grady, Arkells, The Inbreds, Big Wreck and Stereophonics, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 42 connections around The Tragically Hip, reaching back through Julie Doiron and forward to Grady. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
