The Weakerthans is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of The Constantines, Propagandhi, Plumtree and Murder By Death. Those roots explain a lot about how The Weakerthans arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Hold Steady, Jets to Brazil, The Constantines, The New Pornographers and Pedro the Lion, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think, Greg Graffin, The Promise Ring and Aaron West and The Roaring Twenties, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 35 connections around The Weakerthans, reaching back through The Constantines and forward to Broken Social Scene. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
