Gospel

Tyler Perry is a Gospel act. Their sound grew out of Mad Skillz and Chrisette Michele. Those roots explain a lot about how Tyler Perry arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mississippi Mass Choir, Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers, Tye Tribbett & G.A., Juanita Bynum and Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Teyana Taylor, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 18 connections around Tyler Perry, reaching back through Mad Skillz and forward to Teyana Taylor.
