Witchfinder General is a Doom metal and Heavy metal act. Their sound grew out of Black Sabbath and Pagan Altar. Those roots explain a lot about how Witchfinder General arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Reverend Bizarre, Angel Witch and Holocaust, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Chris Reifert, Castle Rat, Cathedral, Reverend Bizarre and Pungent Stench, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 23 connections around Witchfinder General, reaching back through Black Sabbath and forward to Chris Reifert. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
