Signed to Hidden Beach Recordings, Kindred emerged from the Philadelphia neo soul movement that also includes Jill Scott, who introduced them to her then label president Steve McKeever of Hidden Beach Recordings while the couple was performing at the Black Lily Showcase in Philly weekly back in 2000. Kindred would go on to sign their first recording contract with the label.

In 2025, he was inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.

Jacquelyn Suzette Wright is an American singer and songwriter. She has released five studio albums and is part of the Okayplayer collective. Wright has performed and collaborated alongside rap acts such as the Roots, Jay-Z, and Blackalicious.

Zhané was an American R&B duo of Renée Neufville and Jean Norris-Baylor, best known for their 1993 hit "Hey Mr. D.J.", which reached No. 6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Encompassing soul, hip hop soul and gospel music, the group was founded in Baltimore in 1992 by Tamir "Nokio the N-Tity" Ruffin, who served as a member alongside lead singer Mark "Sisqó" Andrews, Larry "Jazz" Anthony and James "Woody" Green. Dru Hill has released seven Billboard Hot 100 top 40 hits, and are best known for their singles "In My Bed", "Never Make a Promise" and "How Deep Is Your Love".
