◇ image via WikipediaAlcest
Alcest is a Black metal act. Their sound grew out of Ulver, Shoegaze, Sylvaine, Amesoeurs and Harakiri for the Sky. Those roots explain a lot about how Alcest arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Les Discrets, Sylvaine, Amesoeurs, Heretoir and Lantlôs, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Svalbard, Les Discrets, Katatonia, Der Weg einer Freiheit and Skyforest, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 52 connections around Alcest, reaching back through Ulver and forward to Svalbard. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
