◇ image via WikipediaMy Bloody Valentine
My Bloody Valentine is a Dream pop act. Their sound grew out of Cocteau Twins, Noise Pop, Andrew Weatherall, A.R. Kane and Sex Pistols. Those roots explain a lot about how My Bloody Valentine arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Slowdive, Ride, Lush, Drop Nineteens and Swirlies, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Slowdive, Ride, Nothing, Kero Kero Bonito and Heligoland, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 195 connections around My Bloody Valentine, reaching back through Cocteau Twins and forward to Slowdive. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
