World music
World music

Ballaké Sissoko is a World music act. Their sound grew out of Jordi Savall. Those roots explain a lot about how Ballaké Sissoko arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Toumani Diabaté, Vieux Farka Touré, Amadou & Mariam, Geoffrey Oryema and Orchestra Baobab, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Vincent Peirani, Ludovico Einaudi, Rokia Traoré, Toumani Diabaté and Taj Mahal, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 18 connections around Ballaké Sissoko, reaching back through Jordi Savall and forward to Vincent Peirani.
