Rap

Box Car Racer is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of Travis Barker, Jawbox, Quicksand, Fugazi and Refused. Those roots explain a lot about how Box Car Racer arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Blink-182, +44, Tom DeLonge, Sum 41 and Alkaline Trio, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into One Step Closer, Angels & Airwaves and Blink-182, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 35 connections around Box Car Racer, reaching back through Travis Barker and forward to One Step Closer. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Box Car Racer was an American post-hardcore band formed in San Diego, California, in 2001. The band was a side-project of Blink-182 members Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker, with David Kennedy of Hazen Street completing the band's studio lineup. A friend of Barker, Anthony Celestino later joined the band as a bassist. DeLonge created the project to pursue darker ideas he felt unsuited to his work with Blink-182.
