Chaka Demus is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Spanner Banner, Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart, Nicodemus, Prince Jammy and King Jammy. Those roots explain a lot about how Chaka Demus arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Admiral Bailey, Mega Banton, Jigsy King, Reggie Stepper and Pad Anthony, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Tanto Metro & Devonte and Patoranking, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 24 connections around Chaka Demus, reaching back through Spanner Banner and forward to Tanto Metro & Devonte. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
