Dancing Queen is a Dance-pop act. Their sound grew out of George McCrae, Dr. John and Delaney & Bonnie. Those roots explain a lot about how Dancing Queen arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Waterloo and Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Blondie, Elvis Costello, MGMT, Carol Douglas and Kylie Minogue, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 11 connections around Dancing Queen, reaching back through George McCrae and forward to Blondie. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
