Alternative rockPunk rockRap

U2 is a Alternative rock and Punk rock act. Their catalogue also touches Rap. Their sound grew out of Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and David Bowie. Those roots explain a lot about how U2 arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Bono, R.E.M., Coldplay, Peter Gabriel and The Alarm, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Glasvegas, Jonas Brothers, Seal, Lostprophets and Third Eye Blind, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 301 connections around U2, reaching back through Bob Dylan and forward to Glasvegas. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
