Dick Dale is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Hank Williams, Albert King, Camille Saint-Saëns, Gene Krupa and Leon Russell. Those roots explain a lot about how Dick Dale arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Centurians, The Shadows, The 5.6.7.8's, The Beach Boys and The Bobby Fuller Four, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into East Bay Ray, The Crusaders, The Changcuters, The Beach Boys and Jimi Hendrix, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 30 connections around Dick Dale, reaching back through Hank Williams and forward to East Bay Ray. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
