DancehallHip hopReggae

Dr. Alban is a Dancehall and Hip hop act. Their catalogue also touches Reggae. Their sound grew out of Tony Rebel, Melissa, Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Haddaway and No Coke. Those roots explain a lot about how Dr. Alban arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ice MC, Culture Beat, 2 Unlimited, E-Type and Mr. President, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Marry the Night, All That She Wants and Afro-dite, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 28 connections around Dr. Alban, reaching back through Tony Rebel and forward to Marry the Night. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
